Our story

As residential growth increased in the South East corner of the RM of Corman Park, it became apparent that there was a need for treated, reliable, drinking water. In 2001, a few local residents met and formed the South Yellowhead Water Corporation, (SYWC). This volunteer group organized the financing, installation and maintenance of a pipeline with treated water from the City of Saskatoon and supplied from a SaskWater mainline.   By June 2002, Tamarack Professional Services was hired as an Engineering Consultant to design and supervise construction of our system that was installed by Tollison Cable Services Ltd.  In November 2004, the line was extended south to include Prairie Haven subdivision by Norrish Contracting. There are now approximately 11 miles of pipe servicing 46 customers. Average daily water consumption per household is 550 liters /day in winter, and 900 liters/day in summer. Quality control of the water is tested daily for total chlorine and twice a month for bacteria.

SYWC continues to be a non-profit volunteer organization that is providing families with safe drinking water and the reliability for agricultural purposes. This is not a public service, but rather a private volunteer organization that we have chosen to join. We all can help in doing our part by reading our meters and submitting payments on time and supporting the executive. We all own this pipeline and are responsible for its maintenance and continued delivery of quality water. Water is the necessity of all life, and we appreciate having SYWC.
